JINJER

JINJER

Sun 2 March - San Fran, Wellington

Mon 3 March - Powerstation, Auckland

Valhalla Touring presents the first ever New Zealand tour of one of modern metal's hottest and most exciting bands around today: JINJER (Napalm Records). In less than 12 years, the four-piece Progressive Groove metal wrecking machine known as JINJER have carved their very own place in the Metal landscape. Hailing from Donetsk but now based in Kiev, this Ukrainian musical oddity formed in 2009 but consider the official start of the band with the addition of the incredible vocalist and Femme Fatale Tatiana Shmayluk in 2010.

JINJER has become synonymous with doing things their own way and breaking every rule in the Heavy Metal handbook- which they made loudly clear on their hugely successful fourth studio album: WALLFLOWERS.

WALLFLOWERS is not only an upgrade to the progressive groove metal sound that all JINJER fans crave, but also a sonic pressure cooker of technical musicianship, emotional fury and an intense soundtrack befitting the harrowing state of the world today. From the blast beat laden banger COLOSSUS, to the 90s grunge vibe of DISCLOSURE! and dynamically blazing MEDIATOR, to the dark and gloomy psychedelic ride of WALLFLOWER and blistering urgency of tracks such as VORTEX and AS I BOIL ICE – the unbridled heaviness and personality proved to be another standout addition to JINJER's already widely celebrated catalog, and a new standard for creativity in Modern Metal as a whole.

CONAN with BORER

CONAN with BORER

Thu 6 March - Valhalla, Wellington

Fri 7 March - Sydenham Underpass, Christchurch

Sat 8 March - Double Whammy, Auckland

Bow to battle doom lords CONAN, as they’re taking over our lands once again.

“…CONAN have risen to become titans of the doom metal scene. Revered by fans and other bands alike, the trio born of frontman Jon Davis’ desire to play heavy and slow have conquered their way across the globe, buoyed on the backs of dedicated work ethic and maul heavy riffing...” — Distorted Sound Magazine

Conan is wildly influential in their home country of the UK and well beyond; headliners in practice and theory alike. Their fifth LP, 2022’s ‘Evidence of Immortality,’ brought a dark ambience to coincide with its outright attack. With experiments in darkwave and synth adding breadth to the stated root purpose of aural force, it’s never been harder to guess where the next few years might take their sound, but whatever’s coming, Conan will make it kill. The better part of two decades later, their reliability remains unshakable. Which you want when your band is so heavy that the floor and your rib cage both start to vibrate.

Joining the killer bill will be Borer - Tone worshiping doom sludge from the swamps of Otautahi for a total tour of destruction.

CHELSEA WOLFE

CHELSEA WOLFE

Thu 29 May - Meow nui, Wellington

Fri 30 May - Powerstation, Auckland

Three years after her sold out tour of Oceania, the Queen of Darkness will bring her visceral, vivid live performance back to Auckland & Wellington.

She will tour with her four-piece band, as well as bringing along experimental Australian artist UBOA performing as support for all shows outside Perth.

Chelsea Wolfe will perform a career-spanning set on this tour, including songs from her new album “She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She” which was released in February.

Chelsea Wolfe’s latest album is a rebirth in process. It’s a powerfully cathartic statement about cutting ties, as well as an important reminder that healing is cyclical and circular, and not a simple linear process. Featuring elements of electronica, trip hop, industrial music and goth rock, it has been hailed as one of her finest works, with Clash proclaiming it her “most ambitious and carefully-constructed” and Kerrang suggesting it “may be the most creatively adventurous of her career.”

Her return in 2025 will mark 15 years since her debut ‘The Grime and The Glow’ was released, sparking a career that has influenced and inspired a dedicated cult following worldwide to appreciate life in both its darkness and light.

BATUSHKA

BATUSHKA
Dec 12th – Tuning Fork, Auckland

Hailing from Białystok, ‎Podlaskie, Batushka was founded by Krzysztof Drabikowski in 2015. Bringing in vocalist Bartłomiej “Bart” Krysiuk, the distinct sound of Batushka was created and their debut album Litourgiya released. Litourgiya (Witching Hour Productions, 2015) is a masterful mix of savagely rhythmic black metal and Krysiuk’s beastly chants of the Eastern Orthodox litany, that continues to receive well deserved praise. Inspired by the Eastern Orthodox church in not only the imagery and themes, but Batushka’s lyrics are written exclusively in Church Slavonic, an encomium to the already haunting and jaggedly grand instrumentals.

NILE

NILE

Tuesday 22 October - WHAMMY!, Auckland

There is death metal and then there is NILE

South Carolina death metal masters NILE are making their long awaited return to Aotearoa in October 2024. The band’s New Zealand tour for their 2019 album Vile Nilotic Rites was initially cancelled due to the pandemic. Now after four long years, nothing can stop us from witnessing NILE’s brutal death metal in the flesh.

Formed in 1993 and still fronted by founding member Karl Sanders, NILE have continued to craft unsparingly ferocious and bone-crushingly heavy anthems over their time as a band. Devastatingly uncontestable, NILE’s technical ferocity shows utterly zero signs of diminishing with their ninth studio album Vile Nilotic Rites. Containing 11 songs that are as sharp as obsidian blades and as heavy as nine Nubian pyramids, the rulers have instilled a hammer blow of god-like heaviness.

Drawing inspiration from Egyptology, they’ve established their own new themes for technical death metal to instill the power of the ancient gods in all who witness them.

The time has surfaced to reacquaint diehard New Zealand fans with NILE’s saurian whirlwind and provocative funerary spells.

(with Fall of Man & Sol Mortvvs)
Sat 19th Oct - Churchill, Christchurch (with Hecates Cult & Men An Tol)
Sun 20th Oct - Whammy, Auckland (with UMOS & Brackenwood Coven)

Founded in Germany in 2019, MONDERNTE is a one-person satanic musical entity based in Reykjavík, Iceland. The sole creatrix S.W.R. invokes music that oscillates between black metal, dark folk, occult rock and dark ambient, while deliberately dissolving genre boundaries in the name of “Aural Luciferian Witchcraft”.

After having performed her musical offerings on stage in Iceland, Switzerland and Australia since 2022, MONDERNTE's first concert tour takes her to the Antipodean lands of Australia and New Zealand, countries that are both crucial to the band's inception and history.

So far, MONDERNTE has self-released three cassettes in true DIY fashion, as well two splits through the Swiss underground label Hexenkult and the German label AbArt Corruption.

VULVODYNIA

VULVODYNIA

Tuesday 01 October- Valhalla, Poneke / Wellington

Wednesday 02 October- Churchills, Ōtautahi / Christchurch

Friday 04 October - Whammy, Tamaki Makaurau / Auckland

Vulvodynia is a South African slam juggernaut designed with one purpose: to make the heaviest, most absurdly heavy music possible, while attempting to define themselves as more than just “another slam band.” With former guitarist, Lwandile Prusent, now on vocal duties and their 6th album being release on the July 5th, Vulvodynia are making 2024 their own.

If their mission was over-the-top heaviness, then consider it accomplished—from their debut release, Lord of Plagues, to their upcoming album Entabeni, Vulvodynia’s penchant for skull-splitting technicality and eviscerating heaviness has been obvious. Rapidly gaining popularity and recognition for their prodigal slam prowess, each tour and release has seen the band reach ears not just in their local scene, but around the world as well. As the band’s popularity grew, their sound matured, drawing more from a greater array of influences and improving their musicianship and dynamism.

With 5 full length albums cementing Vulvodynia’s status as slam legends, transcending common gimmicks and staples of the genre and instead opting to generate an overwhelmingly crushing experience that fans of any style of heavy music will be able to get into. The trend will continue with their forthcoming album, Entabeni, set to be released on July 5th via Unique Leader Records. Aotearoa will be one of the first countries in the world to feel the full force of Entabeni live

EYEHATEGOD

EYEHATEGOD

Tuesday 30 July – Wellington, Valhalla

Wednesday 31 July – Auckland, Mothership

EYEHATEGOD have become the high water mark when it comes to so called sludge metal, having birthed rock's unholy bastards and inspiring multiple others with their combined sounds of southern rock, blues riffs and hardcore punk. Noting Black Flag, The Melvins and Black Sabbath as a domineering and significant influence to their sound today, they are the cornerstone for countless other sonic acolytes following in their fetid footsteps and have made themselves one of the most reputable and distinctive bands ever.

EYEHATEGOD’s latest album ‘A History of Nomadic Behavior’ and their most recent since their last Australian tour in 2019, is a blowtorch-distortion and blues-saturated combination of songs pierced with scarring pain and disconsolate fury. The album combines an unsettling, chaotic tone with a scathing, scabrous slab of cacophonous sensory overload that only EYEHATEGOD know how to convey.

After the tragic death of bassist/vocalist Caleb Schofield in 2018, Converge bassist Nate Newton picked up his friend’s instrument and the band was able to continue on its legacy, resulting in their seventh album - 2022’s Heavy Pendulum.

THE OCEAN

THE OCEAN

Friday 31 May - Galatos, Auckland

Saturday 01 June - San Fran, Wellington

Acclaimed post-metal band THE OCEAN return to Aotearoa this winter to wow audiences. Coalescing around a shared vision of limitless sonic exploration and heaviness, The Ocean is a group of artists that has released 10 studio albums in different constellations for over 20 years. 2023 saw the release of the band’s ninth album Holocene - the heavily conceptual collective’s most exploratory and varied release yet - and the conclusion of the paleontological era they began with 2018’s Phanerozoic I: Paleozoic and continued with 2020’s Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic / Cenozoic. Having flirted more with extreme metal influences on these records than ever before, the arrival of Holocene saw the band - lead by guitarist and mastermind Robin Staps - forge a new path into a world of looped electronics and more subtle melodic experimentation while philosophically reflecting on humanity as always, this time on the nascent realities of a post-pandemic world.

CARCASS with THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER

CARCASS with THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER
April 10th - Wellington, Meow
April 11th - Christchurch, Loons
April 12th - Auckland, Galatos

Ferocious and uncompromising in their execution, CARCASS’s ability to intricately dissect the innards of death metal, and display them for us to sonically understand has been their point of excellence for well over three decades. Whether it was inventing gore-grind or creating the template for melodic death metal, CARCASS has always made records by which bars were set and rules were broken.

Since 2001, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER have created a musical brute that embraces all the finest qualities of melodic death metal yet does not shackle them, giving them room to constantly evolve and grow. Consistently punishing with a searing visceral intensity, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER continue to inflict a cavalcade of riffs to the table, upping the stakes in technicality, melody, and sheer blunt force trauma.

For a genre in which many closed-minded zealots see catchiness as a dirty word, Gatecreeper go hard against the grain of the old school death metal revival.
